Daniel wasn't a strong county anymore, nor was he a large one. He used to be like that, but those days were gone. For a long time he had been only suffering, finding no way to end the misery. And he was reminded of the cruel actions of other strong nations against him every time he attended a world conference. He survived through many years, but how longer could he stay alive? When was the next war approaching, where he would fight his last battle? He was weak and becoming weaker. He started fearing death.
First he only became quieter, slowly losing his cheerful and commanding behavior. Then he was invited to less and less meetings and he spent his days alone, that let him feel that he didn't matter to the other countries anymore. He had lost his confidence and he spent his life in fear, which slowly led him to having anxiety and panic attacks.
The least convenient time to have an attack was in the middle of the world conference. Hearing things he didn't want to hear filled his mind with bloody pictures from the past and he could feel the same pain in his body again. He stormed out of the room, drawing some attention, but the nations decided to ignore it and return to the conference material. You were the only one who actually got worried about him, so you stood up and quietly walked outside to find him.
You didn't have to search long. The sight of him curled up on the floor and leaning against the wall broke your heart. He was shaking violently and his breathing was heavy. He muttered some words you could not understand. "Dani..." You slowly crouched next to him and touched his shoulder gently. You didn't know what to do or say, asking him if he was alright would have sounded too dumb. You just continued holding his shoulder and listened to him nearly sob. "What's wrong?" You tried again. "I don't want to die..." His voice shook as he mumbled through gritted teeth. Your hold on his shoulder tightened as he continued muttering. "Don't let them come near me. Keep them away from me!" He begged desperateloy. "Whom? Who is it, Daniel?" He clenched his fists on the floor and swallowed hard, not stopping shiverng for a moment. His voice cracked and the names came out as whimpers. "Romania and Slovakia." You looked around to make sure nobody else was on the corridor. You didn't want anyone to see him like this.
"Dani." You grabbed both of his shoulders and he slowly looked at you, his expression still desperate and scared. "You won't die." You told him firmly, but all he showed you was disbelief. "Please. Don't think about that so much, it only harms you." "But... I don't know how to go on anymore. I have lost so much and I really don't know if I can ever take it back. They keep lying about me and nobody is on my side anymore. Nobody helps me, I'm all alone and they are not, they are stronger than me and they want to kill me! My people are leaving me too, how could I stay alive if something happens again? I'm already dying and I don't know how I could stand longer." You leaned your forehead against his and hushed to him while rubbing his arms comfortingly.
"Dani, you used to have it even worse. How small were you during the Ottoman Wars? How little power did you have?" He let out a shivery sigh and looked down. "It was just as miserable as it is today. Everything started back then. It all is the Turks' fault." "But think of what happened after that. You grew bigger than ever, you were a great country." "And that's why Austria used and robbed me." "She taught you a lot though, don't forget that." "But she also helped me to get into this state. I can't ignore that." "I know... But what I'm trying to tell you is that there is a chance for you to be strong and large again." "How? I'm not very rich or skillful anymore." "But you always found a way to stay alive. That's what makes you a great country." He stayed quiet. "Or think of Poland, She has made many mistakes too. But! World War II, what happened? She was cruelly murdered by giant nations, she was wiped off the map with a stroke. And look at her now! She seems quite alive to me! It's because she didn't give up. You two are friends like since ever, how could you not recognize this? Let her show you an example. If she was able to come back from death and live happily again, why couldn't you? Why do you say you have nobody when you have always had her? You can count on her and trust her. She would not betray you, she's not like that. ... Do you understand now? Not everything is lost. It will be alright, it's not yet the end."
He stayed silent but he looked calmer. He was slightly leaning against you, too. "Thank you." He answered shortly. You gave him a smile, stood up and offered your hand to him. He grabbed your hand but got up by himself. "Let's go back, I'm sure the others are wondering what just happened."

Since Daniel sounds cooler than Dániel, I'll go with the English name.
Exaggerations and such because of Daniel's anger and author's lack of knowledge.
